We’re recruiting!

Help us to champion the Towpath Trail!

The Lancaster Canal Regeneration Partnership CIC (LCRP CIC) are seeking new Directors to support the current CIC Directors with our growth, strengthen our governance and help deliver our ambitious vision for the Towpath Trail, a 27-mile blue-green corridor connecting Kendal and Lancaster through accessible travel, heritage, nature and wellbeing experiences.

The Towpath Trail aims to create a high-quality, year-round route for walking, wheeling and cycling, celebrating the canal’s rich history while improving health, tourism, biodiversity and local pride in place. The initiative also creates momentum towards the restoration of the Northern Reaches in the longer term. As community and partner support builds and investment grows for the Towpath Trail, we are expanding our Board to bring in fresh energy, skills and leadership.

About the Role

We are looking for two CIC Director’s who will:

· Champion the Towpath Trail initiative, promoting it within your networks and act as an ambassador for our work.

· Take responsibility for either Company Secretary duties (supporting the Chair with annual statements, statutory returns and good governance) or promotion and leadership to help secure additional funding opportunities.

· Attend quarterly Board meetings, alongside representatives from the wider partnership, to receive updates from the paid LCRP Manager, Helen Watson-Moriarty.

· Join occasional ad-hoc Director meetings when needed.

· Participate in working groups such as the Funding Group (optional).

· Represent the CIC at opening events, celebrations and public engagements.

This is a voluntary Director role with expenses covered. It offers a meaningful opportunity to shape a major regional initiative with long-term positive social, environmental and economic impact.

Who We’re Looking For

People from all backgrounds are welcome. You do not need experience working on canals.

We are particularly interested in individuals who:

· Care about accessible travel, active lifestyles, and sustainable transport.

· Value local heritage, landscape conservation, and community wellbeing.

· Have experienced running a company, governance, finance, or strategic leadership.

· Enjoy collaborative working and championing positive change.

· Are excited by the idea of helping deliver a transformational project for South Cumbria and North Lancashire.

If you’re passionate about place-making, community regeneration or environmental improvement, this role could be a perfect fit.

· Please register your interest with a phone call to the LCRP CIC Chair, David Faulkner, by early September. Arrange via email to [email protected]

· Submit a short written outline of why you’d like to become a CIC Director and how you can support LCRP CIC, by the end of September.
