Thanks to the hardwork of the amazing team pictured above, the inaugural Crooklands Canalathon was enjoyed by many.
After a warm welcome from David and Richard and registering with Audrey and Rebecca, participants made their way to the paddle board start area. Stef, the paddle board co-ordinator, provided participants with a safety briefing before they set off on their Canalathon journey.
Cheered on by marshalls at each bridge (aka ‘The Bridge Team’, Liz, Simon, Graham and Nick), saying hello to the odd swan and crossing the Stainton Aqueduct, they left the canal with help from Garry, Pierre and Stuart who ensured their paddle board was in the right place to be returned to the event field.
Children joined the 2.3km run back to the jetty opposite the Crooklands Hotel where everyone was rewarded with cheers from Ruth and Jo and a celebratory seedbomb!
The seedbomb included the crucial reminder to return to the area to enjoy the Towpath improvements in January 2025.
We’re looking forward to receiving participant feedback to help us review the event and potentially design Crooklands Canalathon part two – watch this space!
