The Farleton Fell Loop

Arrive at Crooklands to join the Towpath Trail. 

Arriving by bus; 

The Stagecoach 567 between Kirkby Lonsdale and Kendal stops at three points near the Towpath Trail at Crooklands 

• The Crooklands Hotel 
• The Millness Depot 
• Crooklands Roundabout 

Arriving by car;

• Layby opposite Crooklands Hotel (what three words ///easily.tucked.owner  
• Canal & River Trust Car Park at Millness (what three words ///starter.number.crucially) 
• A65 layby near Millness Car Park (what three words ///deep.doll.trespass) 
• Crooklands Hotel as a customer (highly recommended!)  

Arriving by bike;

There isn’t dedicated bike storage at this starting point. See the Towpath Trail cycle options if you want to access the Towpath Trail by bike.

Leave the Towpath temporarily via the Canal & River Trust Millness Car Park by walking under the M6 bridge and following the signage on your right-hand side to rejoin the canal before the Texaco garage  

Continue on the Towpath Trail for approximately 2.5km. 

At Bridge 155 exit the Towpath Trail onto the road.

Carefully cross the road and turn right to walk over the M6 bridge 

Turn left at the Footpath sign into a farmer’s field, the M6 will be on your left.  

Exit the farmer’s field and re-join the Towpath by walking up the steps ahead and turning right onto the Towpath Trail.  

Continue until the towpath meets North Road where you exit the Towpath Trail 

Turn left onto North Road and continue for approximately 200 metres passing under the M6 underpass 

At the T Junction, take care crossing and walk on the left-hand side of the road for approximately 400 metres. Turn left at the sign for Threlkeld Holme Park Farm.  

Walk up the farm lane until you reach the National Trust entrance to Holme Park Fell.  

At the Holme Park Farm sign take the left-hand path winding upwards with rocks on your right-hand side. 

Continue to follow the path up and over Holme Park Fell. 

Cross over the dry stone wall via the steps and take the path in front of you to continue upwards.  

At the next set of path crossroads, go left towards the Farleton Knott Cairn. 

At the Cairn, take the path on your right to head down through the Gorse bushes. 

Continue weaving downwards and heading to the right until you reach a wider defined path at the bottom of the fell. 

Turn right onto this path and exit through the gates onto Puddlemire Lane. 

Turn left on to Puddlemire Lane and continue for approximately 870 metres. 

Turn left at the junction onto Nook Lane.

At the farm houses cross the lane and walk to the right (between the national speed limit signs) over the canal bridge. 

 Walk over the bridge and turn right to re-join the Towpath Trail via the small and hidden Towpath entrance. 

Once you’re back on the Towpath Trail turn left to walk the 2.5km back to your car or bus stop and enjoy well deserved refreshments at The Crooklands Hotel!
